Hi everybody! Remember me??? Well, If you don't, I can't blame you. It's been forever since I've done an update on the site, and once again, I apologize. I'm not even going to begin to make excuses...of course, there were the Christmas holidays, I've been doing book signings, and I even had surgery! But, like I said, I'm not going to make excuses. The important thing is...here is a new update! Just in time for the New Year! Now don't expect me to make a New Year's resolution to write updates more often because you know those things never last. Plus, these updates are hard to write...they really are. You probably just saw that my good buddy J.R. is discontinuing the weekly "Ross Report" that he had been doing for years on the WWE website. I'm telling ya'...I don't know how he did it as long as he did. I could never have done that. I'm lucky to turn one of these things out every month or so, and that's like pulling teeth!
What it boils down to, is time...It's all about time. Time is the most valuable thing we have. Some people think they never have enough money...I think I never seem to have enough time. Maybe that's why they say, "Time is money." Like right now I am thinking, "You're wasting time writing about time...nobody wants to know what you think about time...they want to know what's been going on in your life and the business, and you're talking about time!" And I really don't have time to be talking about time because I am writing this on a plane while flying from Detroit to Memphis. The flight attendant just announced that this was a one hour and twenty-two minute flight so I got to get writing...faster! See, I'm not the greatest typist in the world either...so even though I know what I want to tell you, it takes me awhile to type it into words. The hour and twenty-two minutes that I started out with has already dwindled down to about 45 minutes! Whoops, there I go talking about time again.
Well, speaking of time, let me try to backtrack on some of the time I've spent lately and see if I can get you caught up on what I've been up to. The reason I am flying back to Memphis now is because last night, January 3rd, I was in snowy Boston, Mass. Making an appearance at the 29th Annual, World of Wheels Custom Auto Show. I love those things! They had some of the most incredible cars in that show that I had ever seen in my life. It was hard to sit on that stage and sign autographs for two and a half hours when I really wanted to be walking around the show with the rest of the fans and gazing at those beautiful cars. And the cars weren't the only "beauties" at the show. They had a group of girls called, The Texas Bikini Team, also appearing...and let me just say, "PUPPIES!!" Some of the prettiest puppies I have ever seen! Other than me and the puppies...er, uh, Texas Bikini Team, they also had Verne Troyer there...you know Verne, he's "Mini Me" from the Austin Powers movies. (And he REALLY is mini...I got socks taller than this guy!) He's only 32 inches tall. But he's a really nice guy and the fans love him. Steve Wilkos, the bald headed guy from the Jerry Springer show was there, as was Spiderman from Marvel Comics and a movie guy named Chad Lindberg. He played "Jesse" in the movie, The Fast & The Furious with Vin Deisel. Anyway, it was a fun show to do and I met a lot of people who brought copies of my book for me to sign. I finished around 10pm and I rushed back to my hotel to catch the end of the National Championship game between Ohio State and Miami. WOW! What a game. Even though I'm more of an NFL fan than I am a college fan, I got to say, that was some game. I was pulling for Ohio State, mainly because it had been so long since they had won a National Championship, and they were such underdogs in the game with the press and everyone. And the finish of the game couldn't have been better...double overtime! It was a shame anyone had to lose that game.
After the game, I went on-line and read my e-mail from the last few days. I am getting so many letters from all of you that have read my book and are telling me what you think of it. Thanks, first of all for buying the book, and secondly, for taking the time to let me know what you thought of it. I am posting a lot of the letters I get concerning the book here on the site as well. Uh oh, I feel the plane starting to descend...TYPE FASTER!! I get back to Memphis at about 1pm today and then I just have time to go to my house and change clothes, maybe have a bite to eat and then head back to the airport for a 5:15pm flight to Phoenix, Arizona. I have a book signing at a Borders bookstore in Mesa, Arizona tomorrow, and then we do RAW in Phoenix on Monday.
The reason I am going out this afternoon as opposed to tomorrow morning is, If I went tomorrow morning, I would be in the air while my Cleveland Browns were playing the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first playoff game since 1994. Now anyone that knows anything about the King, knows that ain't gonna happen. I wish I could be at the game in person, but since I have to be in Arizona, I am going to at least be in my hotel room where I can watch every minute of the game on television. If the Browns somehow win that game you will know I am the happiest person in the world! If they don't win, I am still glad they at least made it to the playoffs. It's been a long hard road for Browns fans the last several years and just making the playoffs this year has made it all worthwhile. Talking about football, I know that J.R. is beside himself that his Oklahoma Sooners won big in their first ever appearance in the Rose Bowl. I understand J.R. got to be on the sidelines for the game and that had to be one of the biggest thrills of his life...coming in second only to his and my big tag team victory a few weeks ago in J.R.'s home state of Oklahoma! What a night that was!! I know for a fact that poor ol' J.R. was fully expecting to be somehow humiliated beyond belief when RAW came back to Oklahoma City that week. Why should anything change? The time before last when we had been there, J.R. got pummeled by his "friend", Stone Cold Steve Austin. Then on our last visit, J.R. was forced to kiss Vince McMahon's ass! He knew something was going to happen to him, he just didn't know what. And the cool thing about that is that he was fine with that. Even if it meant personal embarrassment, if it made the show more entertaining, J.R. would go along with anything. That's what made what finally took place so special to me. To see something really good happen to J.R. in front of all the fans that mean the most to him was one of my favorite "RAW moments" of all time. It's really hard to describe the feeling that was in that arena that night. I know when J.R. walked out from that curtain to the sound of the Oklahoma Sooners marching band, sitting there "live" in our audience, playing the Oklahoma fight song, it sent chills up and down my spine...I can only imagine how J.R. felt. I was really proud and happy for him. And what a job he did in the match...he may be my best tag team partner ever! I can't think of anyone else that I am undefeated with! When I think about my own personal favorite "RAW moments." that match is number two on my list. My number one own personal favorite "RAW moment" has to be the episode in which I returned to the show after a nine month absence. The same night the Nature Boy, Ric Flair returned to RAW after an even longer absence. When I walked down that ramp and passed Paul Heyman being dragged, kicking and screaming, up the ramp, that will always be my favorite moment from RAW!
Gosh! I don't know what to talk about next... I hope everyone had Happy Holidays! I guess my Christmas was OK, It still wasn't what I have been used to for years. I really miss those Christmas' with Stacy. They were so special to me. It's funny how I used to hear people say, "I'll be glad when Christmas is over!" And I'd think, "What are they talking about? How can anyone be glad for Christmas to be over?" Well now I realize, they must have had a "Stacy situation," or something like it in their lives too, because this year I found myself wanting the holidays to hurry up and end. The memories they brought with them were just too painful. I didn't hear one word from Stacy over the holidays...not even the simple, two word, "Merry Christmas" e-mail I got from her last year. I wish that didn't still hurt...but it does. I have gotten e-mail from people asking me if I've heard from Stacy since my book came out. Once again, the answer is, "no"....I don't even know if she's seen the book or read the parts about her or not. A lot of people figured out that I wasn't writing those chapters "about" Stacy, I was writing those chapters "to" Stacy. I wrote them hoping she would read them and know how much what happened between us hurt me. But, like I said, who knows if she has even seen the book.
Speaking of the book, It seems to be doing really well. I have not heard any real sales figures from the Simon & Schuster people, but the "word of mouth" is good. I got reports of many bookstores selling out of their supply before Christmas. I've done two signings by the time you read this and they both went very well....lots and lots of people in line to get their books signed. One really special moment for me was at a signing at WaldenBooks in Wolfchase Galleria Mall in Memphis. I looked up and there was my high school art teacher, Ms Stahl, standing waiting to get her book signed. You'll read about her in my book. Other than my Mom, she has probably been the most influential woman in my life. And she's still to this day my all time favorite artist. I am getting a lot of mail from people who want to know where I am going to be doing book signings, as they would like to get their books autographed. I will keep an updated list of dates and places for signings here on my website, but of course I will not be able to be everywhere. With that in mind, I am going to try to set up an address that people can send their book to, along with a return address and postage, and I will autograph your books and send them back to you. That is in the works now and as soon as we are able to start doing that I will put it up here on the site. Once again, "Thanks" to everyone who has written me with your review of the book. I read each and every one of your letters personally.
I am also hearing from a lot of the people who I wrote about in my book. Jackie Fargo has called, Ronnie P. Gossett has called, and I even got an e-mail from the guy who was the original "Leatherface" character that I "set on fire" during a match in Memphis. He reminded me that it was him that was Leatherface and not "Tex" as I said in my book, and he was right! I stand corrected! I heard from the wife and family of wrestler, Billy Garrett who wrestled as one of the Scufflin' Hillbillies and also one of the original Interns with Dr. Ken Ramey. They wanted to thank me for remembering him in my book. Billy just passed away recently and he will be sorely missed. He was one of my all time favorites. I heard from an old "friend" named Theresa from Evansville, Indiana. She reminded me of many fun "exploits" she and I had together years ago when I wrestled there every Wednesday night, and wondered why they weren't in the book. They actually had been in originally, but were taken out by the editors! I've heard from a lot of people...and I want to hear from you, too. Tell me what you think about "It's Good To Be The King...Sometimes." Better yet...make me a book report on it like we had to do in school! That way I'll know you really did read the entire book. And don't wait for the "Cliff Notes" version. (Do they still have Cliff Notes or am I just really dating myself?) I'll bet right now you're saying to yourself, "Dang that's a long flight the King is on to be able to write all this!" Well, you're right...in a way. Now I'm on that flight to Phoenix I was telling you about earlier....the three hour one! So when I land in Phoenix I will send all this to my webmaster and hopefully he will get it posted tonight. Well, I'm going to stop this for now. When I come back I'll tell you about the surgery I mentioned earlier. Plus I'll tell you a little about a young lady I have met named April. There are a couple of pictures of her in the King Kam section that you can check out in the meantime. Until then...stay tuned!
