MEMPHIS IGNITES THE KILLER INSTINCT:
SAM SHAW UNLEASHED!
by
Taylor Mcknight
"The first time is always the best".
Those were the words of Sam Shaw, as he came back through the curtain
after competing in front of a sold out Memphis Championship Wrestling
crowd. While this was not the first time Shaw had appeared in Memphis
wrestling, this occasion was indeed special, because it marked his first
official victory with the company.
"I knew my time would come." said a satisfied Shaw, reflecting on the
events that had just transpired. " I've been here 3 months, and I'm in
a locker room full of knowledge, so I just knew that if I kept my ears
open, paid close attention to the people around me, and absorbed as much
information as I could, that I would eventually prosper. Tonight, all
the hard work paid off, and I feel like the sky is the limit from now
on!" said an excited Shaw as he wiped the sweat from his brow
Shaws victory over Amien Rios came as no surprise to loyal fans of
Memphis wrestling. For the past 3 months, Shaw has appeared as a regular
on the acclaimed "MEMPHIS PRIMETIME", and has been in the ring with such
Memphis stars as Derrick King, The Assassins, and the dangerous Mr.
Hughes. Coming up short in all of the previously mentioned exchanges,
Shaw drew energy from the fact that each loss brought knowledge that
would take him one step closer to an inevitable victory. Infact, it was
in one of those defeats, that Shaw developed a new perspective on
competition.
"I’ve learned something in every match in my career, but my most
valuable lesson came 2 weeks ago, when I faced Total Protection Mr.
Hughes" Shaw continued, his tone getting very serious. "That wasn't just
a match. Hughes is a big guy with no respect; he's slapped women around
on national tv and is known world wide for being a bully. When he got me
in the ring, he was out to send a message by ending my career. As he put
me down with the sidewalk slam, i felt every bit of energy just come
crashing out of my body. As he pinned me, he remarked how I was a piece
of trash, and in the "wrong house". He had no regard for my health, the
fact that I couldn’t breathe, or my overall well being. As a veteran,
I’d have expected more from him. But it was that callas disregard, that
brought a revelation to my eyes."
Backstage that night, Sam Shaw realized what he had been missing all
along; a killer instinct. Coming into the Riverpalace Arena, ironically
located in a facility called "Sams Town", Sam Shaw was determined to
find that killer instinct, and the moment the bell rang, it wasn't
difficult. With hundreds of Memphis Championship Wrestling fans cheering
him on, Shaw unleashed a beast like never seen before, taking everything
that opponent Amien Rios had to offer, but not allowing anything to
stand in his way of proving the point he came to get across.
"Rios kicked me hard in the face, and i felt the lights dim. At first I
thought the house lights had been turned down, but it didn't take me
long to realize that it was me going unconscious. Rios is a great
competitor, but he hasn't been here like I have, and I wasn't going to
let him steal the moment i'd worked so hard to achieve." Sam Shaw said,
his eyes widening as he recalled the final moments of the match.
"I remember laying him out on the canvas, and something coming over me.
Something strange, like gravity had no meaning. Maybe it was the kick to
the head, but i felt like I could fly, and as i climbed to the top, i
felt every single one of the Memphis fans gasp, and looking on with
curiosity. Once I was up there, I couldn't disappoint them. I thought of
every single match, everything I'd learned, and even the things I'd
lost...and in that one moment, standing above every head in the
audience, I was determined to get it all back. " Shaw continued.
This is the moment that left fans breathless, as the near two hundred
and fifty pound Sam Shaw soared through the air, twisting in the wind,
and delivered a picture perfect Swanton Bomb across the body of his
opponent. When recalling it however, Shaw had a different name for the
maneuver.
"It's the Samton Bomb now" Shaw explained. "When i landed on him, i felt
his life force drain, just like mine had, so many times before. I knew
he was done, he didn't have that killer instinct, he didn't want it as
badly as I did, and when the referee hit the final three count, i felt
like every bit of sacrifice I'd made was worth it." Shaw exclaimed,
packing his bag and heading towards the door. "Now I’m ready to reach my
full potential, and mark my words, the next time I step into that ring,
I’m not only going to be a part of Memphis and it’s rich wrestling
history; I’m going to write a chapter of my own that you will never
forget!"
Sam Shaw will get the opportunity to make good on his promise, when he
returns to Sams Town in Tunica Ms. On June 15th for another
exciting mega event by Memphis Championship Wrestling.
